OVERVIEW
No two homes in NYC are exactly alike, and how we practice sustainability inside them is no exception. I set out to capture these wildly unique ways of living – from backyard chickens and upcycled art pieces to plant-based cooking and extreme minimal wasting – to prove that eco-conscious living isn't one-size-fits-all, but as diverse as the city itself.

EVOLUTION
What began as an online storytelling project has since grown into a live event series, bringing New Yorkers together in the physical world to share resources, swap household items, and build community around sustainable home living.

Sustainable Living Exhibition
8 units of a newly developed energy-efficient Passive House condo building in Bed-Stuy with 8 activations exhibiting the various elements of sustainable living — from the building infrastructure to the secondhand items you fill your closet with and the upcycled art made at home.

DISCOVERY #1
No one is 100% sustainable, the world isn’t set up for that. Instead, I’ve discovered that people choose to focus on doing a few things better — from shopping on Facebook Marketplace to creating a food source by growing veggies and raising backyard chickens.
DISCOVERY #2
The little actions we take inside our home can make a big difference. For the Home Swap Stories community, I’ve discovered that actions extend beyond our four walls into our neighborhoods — providing plant-based cooking classes, participating in street clean ups, and passing along unwanted goods to local Buy Nothing groups.
We think of our apartment as our micro home, which is just as important as protecting our macro home — our planet.
